Bob couldn’t help but chuckle as he received the forms for this year’s food festival, triggering memories of the unforgettable incident from the previous year.

The mayor of his city had organized the festival after the first quarantine, and it turned out to be a huge success, making it an annual event.

Recipe for Retribution

Bob had participated in both editions, and he had every intention of joining again this year.

While most participants stuck to their tried-and-true recipes, Bob saw it as an opportunity to experiment with new dishes and potentially update his menu. 

From Pulled Pork to Petty Revenge

As a seasoned member of the crew, Bob knew what to expect from the food festival.

He had his standing recipe for pulled pork sandwiches, but he also decided to introduce a new creation: a mouthwatering sandwich filled with smoked sausage, grilled onions, peppers, eggplant, and a delectable feta cheese sauce.

Bob and his crew devised a plan for the day. They would have three people on-site — a duo of skilled cooks and an apprentice — ensuring they had enough food to handle the lunch rush and replenish their supplies when the evening crew took over at 5:00 p.m.

In case they needed anything, they had a system in place where the crew could call the shop, and Bob would bring the necessary items from their location just 500 yards away.

The day of the festival arrived, and the crew was ready for the flurry of activity. But fate had something unexpected in store.

Around 1:00 p.m., a call came in from the crew on-site, reporting that they were running low on vegetables and cheese sauce.

A Day of Surprises

It turned out that a cruise ship had docked at the city’s port, and its passengers had been unleashed on the food festival, resulting in an unprecedented surge in customers.

Bob sprang into action, grabbing a portable fridge and swiftly making his way through the festival entrance, courtesy of his access pass.

But as he hurried through the bustling “food court,” he couldn’t help but notice the long lines forming in front of nearly every stand.

Cutting Through the Crowds

As Bob made his way toward his own stand’s door, he heard a chorus of disapproving shouts. “Hey!” “Where are you going?” “Get back in line!” echoed through the air.

Undeterred, Bob pressed on, determined to reach his crew. Just as he was about to reach the door, a hand grabbed his shoulder, a gesture that evoked a deep-seated discomfort due to his past experiences.

He turned to face a gray-haired older man, the epitome of a classic tourist, complete with a light yellow shirt, khaki shorts, white socks and sandals, and a hat.

A Tourist’s Trouble

The tourist, still gripping Bob’s shoulder, admonished him, “You can’t cut the line like this! People are waiting!”

Bob, trying to keep his composure, replied, “First, remove your hand. Second, I need to cut the li-“

The tourist interjected, his face turning red with anger, “No! You need to go back in line!”

At this point, one of Bob’s cooks leaned over the counter, eagerly waiting for the ingredients. Bob could feel his patience wearing thin, but he decided to make one final attempt at reasoning.

He Tried to Remain Calm

“I need to go in there to g-” Bob began, only to be cut off by the tourist’s increasingly agitated shouts.

“NO! YOU NEED TO GET BACK IN LINE AND WAIT FOR YOUR FOOD! Young people these days…” the tourist grumbled under his breath.

Ingredients and Indignation

Bob had reached his breaking point, and it was time to release his inner Neanderthal!

With a swift motion, he forcefully removed the man’s hand from his shoulder, making it clear that he wouldn’t tolerate any more interference. “ME NOT CUT LINE, YOU NO EAT! GOT IT?!”

The tourist stood there, utterly stunned by Bob’s assertiveness. It was at that moment that Bob’s cook intervened, leaning over the counter to claim the much-needed ingredients.

Bob handed the fridge to his cook, making it clear not to serve the man who had challenged him.

The cook’s response, laced with humor, echoed Bob’s sentiments perfectly: “I know better than to feed wild animals.”

Petty, but Oh So Satisfying

Looking back on that encounter, Bob couldn’t help but grin. While his actions may have been petty, there was a certain satisfaction in standing up for himself and asserting his place in the bustling food festival.

It was a small victory, a moment of sweet revenge against entitled individuals who disregarded the urgency of his situation.

Kindness and Patience Prevail

In the end, Bob’s petty revenge, if you could call it that, was not about gaining the upper hand or putting someone in their place.
