OP’s dad had worked at a top 500 company as a software engineer and manager since the 1970s. He had many patents that saved the company a lot of money. But when he got close to retirement age, he noticed a worrying trend.
A Troubling Development
The HR department started making things hard for OP’s dad and his colleagues who were also close to turning 60.
His Dad Wasn’t Clocking in and Out
One day, an HR person named Diane said OP’s dad wasn’t clocking in and out at the right times.
He Asked HR to Prove It
OP’s dad knew this wasn’t true, because he was very careful with details. He asked HR to prove it.
They Had No Evidence
A week later, HR didn’t have any proof. OP’s dad wasn’t surprised, because he had been driving the company’s carpool bus from a city 40 miles away for 15 years, meaning 16 people could back him up every day.
They Had It Out for Him
A week later, Diane came back and threatened to fire OP’s dad for supposedly letting people in the building without them using their badges. OP’s dad asked for proof, which they gave him.
Holding the Door
The proof showed OP’s dad holding the door open for a friend and coworker who used a wheelchair because he lost a foot due to diabetes.
He Was Prepared
OP’s dad saw this coming and had already had lunch with the head of security and got some interesting video footage.
He Called Them Out!
OP’s dad then said, “So, I’m being fired for helping my friend who lost a foot? I hope you’re also firing the CEO and yourself!”
He then showed a video of Diane and the CEO doing the same thing – holding the door for his friend.
Staying Strong
Despite all this, OP’s dad stuck it out until he got his pension.
His Dad Started His Own Company
After retiring, OP’s dad started his own company. He used his own money to get a patent for a device that turns sea water into fresh water and makes clean solar energy.
He Got Great Plans for the Future
He got patents in the US, India, and China, and now he’s looking for funding to bring clean water and power to developing countries.
