He Wanted to Be the Best
Jake had always been a hardworking student. He knew that in order to succeed in life, he needed to give his best in every task he took on.
That was why he was so determined to do well on his six-week placement at university. He had to pass it to move on to the next year, and he didn’t want anything to jeopardize his chances.
One Thing Was Holding Him Back
But there was a problem. The guy in the room next to Jake kept playing his music at all hours of the day and night.
It was driving Jake and his roommate crazy, especially since they needed to get a good night’s sleep to be professional the next day on placement.
This Guy Was Rude and Unwilling to Budge
They had tried talking to him about it, but he didn’t seem to care. Jake was getting really stressed about it, and he knew he had to do something.
Luckily His Friend Knew What to Do
One day, Jake was chatting with a friend who worked as a security guard at the university halls of residence. He told him about the noise problem and how it was affecting his work.
Off the Books?
The security guard asked if he wanted to complain about it officially or “off the books.”
Jake didn’t want to cause any official trouble for his neighbor, but he was curious about what his friend meant by “off the books.”
A Plan Was Put Into Motion
His friend explained that he could take care of the problem without involving any official channels.
Jake was hesitant at first, but his friend convinced him that it was the best course of action. He promised to take care of it for him.
A Call Waiting
The next time his friend was on duty, he went to check on Jake’s neighbor. It was after midnight, and the music was blaring as usual.
He knocked on the door, but there was no answer. He decided to take the payphone off the hook and leave it hanging. Then he went up to the third floor, knocked on the door again, and waited for the neighbor to answer.
Front Door Service
When the neighbor answered the door, the security guard told him that the phone had rung and it was a friend of his asking to speak to him, but they didn’t leave a name.
The neighbor didn’t have much money, and what money he did have was running out.
He Just Missed Them!
He ran downstairs and picked up the hanging phone, only to hear beeps. His friend had obviously run out of money. He walked back up and went to bed, wondering who had been trying to call him.
And Repeat!
An hour later, the security guard knocked on his door again, waking him up. He told him that his friend was back on the phone. The neighbor ran downstairs, but he was too late.
His “friend” had run out of money again. He walked back upstairs, feeling confused and frustrated.
One More Time!
An hour later, the same thing happened again. This time, the neighbor realized what was going on and why. He was angry and embarrassed, but he knew he was in the wrong.
He apologized to the security guard and promised to keep his loud music to a decent level and time.
At Least Now He Got It
The following day, the neighbor, to his credit, apologized to Jake and his roommate. He promised to be more considerate in the future, and he kept his word.
A Goodnight’s Sleep
Jake and his roommate were able to get a good night’s sleep, and they were grateful to the security guard for his help.
The Petty Revenge Worked Out
They were relieved that they didn’t have to deal with their inconsiderate neighbor anymore. They were also amused by the fact that their petty revenge plan had worked.
They didn’t have to confront him or cause any official trouble, yet they had managed to resolve the issue.
Passive-Aggressive Revenge
It was a satisfying victory for Jake, and he learned that sometimes, revenge could be a dish best served in a passive-aggressive manner!
