Entitled parents can be quite the handful, and Luigi learned this the hard way back in 2006 during the release of the Nintendo Wii. Despite pre-ordering the console, he was still confronted by a woman who accused him of ruining her children’s Christmas. What happened next was a display of patience, wit, and self-restraint.
He Preordered Months Ago
Luigi was thrilled to be one of the first in line at his local GameStop in the Phoenix Valley on the day of pre-orders for the Nintendo Wii in 2006.
After getting off from his night shift job, he waited patiently for over 2 hours to secure his spot, hopeful that he would be able to reserve one for his sons.
He was third in line, so he felt confident that he would be able to get his hands on one.
They Had Big Plans
To his relief, he was able to pre-order a Nintendo Wii, another controller, and Zelda.
He then eagerly waited for the console’s release day, which he had already planned with his sons for Christmas visitation since it was his year to have them for the holidays.
The Day Finally Came Around
On the day of the release, Luigi did the same thing. He went straight to the mall after his night shift and waited for another two hours in line.
There was a longer line this time, but he was still around fifth in line, so he wasn’t too worried.
She Told Them How It Was Going to Go
Around 30 minutes before the store opened, the manager showed up and headed inside, but not before letting everyone in line know that pre-orders would be honored first, and if there were any consoles left, people could purchase them.
Luigi Was in Luck
He also informed them that they only received 12 consoles for their store, so they should do with that information what they will.
Most people in line were okay with this arrangement, and Luigi was content in knowing that he would definitely be able to purchase a console.
Enter Our Villain
However, about 15 minutes before the store opened, a woman named Karen showed up and marched to the front of the line, demanding to see the manager through the security gate.
She began asking about the Nintendo Wii and how many consoles they had in stock.
There Were No Excuses
The manager reiterated the same policy he told the others in line – that pre-orders would be honored first, and there were only 12 consoles available.
This was not the answer Karen wanted to hear, and she started to argue with the manager, accusing him of not knowing proper store procedures.
The manager cut her off, reminding her that this was their store policy and that she would have to wait in line like everyone else. He then went back into the stockroom, leaving Karen fuming with anger.
She Was Furious
Karen then turned her wrath towards the people waiting in line, screaming at them one by one, telling them they had ruined her children’s Christmas and accusing them of being greedy.
Most people in line were shocked or laughing at her, but when she got to Luigi, she started yelling in his face.
He’d Had Enough of It All
He responded in his low, patient voice, telling her that he pre-ordered, waited in line, and planned for his kids’ Christmas.
He Told Her the Cutting Truth
He then asked her if she hadn’t pre-ordered, and if so, was she blaming them for her own stupidity?
He firmly reminded her that no one in line was going to give her anything, and she needed to shut up and get out.
The people in line behind and in front of Luigi began clapping and laughing at Karen as she stomped off, swearing and screaming.
They Had a Wonderful Christmas
The manager later thanked Luigi once Karen was out of earshot, and Luigi and his sons had a fun Christmas playing Wii Sports and Zelda, as they had planned.
However, Luigi couldn’t help but feel angry at Karen’s entitled behavior and the way she had tried to ruin the holiday for everyone in line.
He Was Standing Up for Himself and the Rest of the Line
Reflecting back on that day, Luigi realized that the situation was more than just a simple conflict.
It was about standing up for what was right and not allowing someone else’s selfishness to ruin the holiday for others.
Luigi was proud of how he had handled the situation and how the people in line had come together to support each other.
Greed Is Not Good
The story of Luigi and his encounter with the entitled parent at the GameStop serves as a reminder that we should never let our greed and entitlement get in the way of our better judgment and respect for others.
