St. Louis family endures year-long racist harassment as viral video leads to charges against a woman who allegedly insulted them, stole their mail, and caused property damage.
Repeated Racist Harassment
A St. Louis family, headed by Fatima Suarez, endured more than a year of repeated visits from a woman who allegedly insulted them, stole their mail, and caused property damage.
Disturbing Footage on Doorbell Camera
The family’s Ring doorbell camera captured footage of the woman yelling into the camera, going through their mail, and directing racist remarks at them.
She Shared the Video Online
Suarez, of Mexican descent, shared the footage on TikTok, where it garnered millions of views.
Response From Attorney’s Office
In response to the viral video, the city’s Circuit Attorney’s Office announced that the warrant application related to the case had been elevated.
Subsequently, Judy Kline of St. Louis was charged with burglary, property damage, and unlawful use of a weapon.
She Was Holding Weapons
The Circuit Attorney’s Office provided a probable cause statement, accompanied by the Ring camera video footage, which showed Kline wielding a hammer and shouting.
Suarez emphasized that her family had no prior acquaintance with Kline and had never seen her before.
The Power of Social Media
The power of social media played a significant role in prompting the police to take action.
She Expressed Her Gratitude
Suarez expressed gratitude for the viral response, as it increased the likelihood of appropriate measures being taken. The harassment by Kline began at the family’s home in the previous year.
She Broke Into Their Home
According to the probable cause statement, on January 5, 2022, Kline approached the back of the house and used a hammer to break into the basement door window by smashing the glass.
At the time, Suarez’s father and 4-year-old sister were inside the house.
She Starting Breaking All Their Things
Once inside, Kline reportedly smashed a glass door on a drying machine and hurled insults while brandishing the hammer.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s booking data indicated that Kline was arrested on that day and charged with aggravated burglary and property damage.
Failed Attempts to Contact Police
Suarez claimed that despite repeatedly contacting the police, Kline was only held for 72 hours before being released, allowing her to return.
An ex parte order of protection involving a petitioner residing at the same address was served to Kline.
The Family Lives in Fear
Despite the charges against Kline, Suarez’s family fears her potential return.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that Kline is not currently in custody, and attempts to reach her for comment by ABC News were unsuccessful.
The Case Should Be Reviewed Within 24 Hours
The Circuit Attorney’s Office stated that when cases are submitted by the police, the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department assesses the public safety threat to determine whether a case should be reviewed within 24 hours of the arrest warrant application.
Police Are Waiting for Additional Video Evidence
The office revealed that they had elevated the warrant application related to this case and are awaiting additional video evidence that was not initially submitted but is now circulating online.
Suarez claimed that she had previously sent the videos to the police.
Is This Family Not Getting Justice?
Due to her experiences and the treatment of others by law enforcement, Suarez expressed a lack of trust in the justice system, noting that it has influenced her decision not to pursue a career in law enforcement.
